Negotiations underway to secure release of Georgian citizen detained at Russia-Georgia border

Negotiations are underway to secure the release of a Georgian citizen who was detained for illegally crossing the border by Russian border guards at the Dagestan section of the Russia-Georgia border on June 13, reports the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The ministry reports that the Georgian Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia and the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs have been negotiating between the Georgian and Russian sides and promise the Georgian citizen, identified only as D.V., will be released in the coming days.

On June 13, a Georgian shepherd informed the Lagodekhi Regional Office of the Border Police, that a Georgian citizen had been detained by Russian border guards at the Dagestan section of the Russia-Georgia border allegedly ‘on charges of crossing the border’.
