About 70 per cent of children given to state care by social workers in 2019-2020 have been subject to violence, while the remaining 30 per cent have been placed in state care due to economic factors, said Deputy Health Minister Tamar Barkalaia.

She noted that as of now there are about 2,000 children under state care.

Social workers bring children from their families mainly due to domestic violence, while reasons like economic factors are slowly decreasing,” said Barkalaia.

She also noted that less people are abandoning their children.
