60,273 people tested for coronavirus in Georgia with PCR method

Georgia has tested 60, 273 people for coronavirus in Georgia between January 30 and June 3 with the use of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests, which is the ‘gold standard’ in testing the virus.
Over the time 801 people have tested positive for the virus in the country and 13 others have died.

As of today 144 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia.
Georgian health officials say that the coronavirus has already re-attacked several countries and there may also be a second wave of the virus in Georgia.
The Georgian government says that they have managed to keep the virus under control so far.
Georgia has reported just one new case of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 801. 644 of the 801 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. As of June 4, 144 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. The new patient belongs to the Saburtalo cluster in Tbilisi. Georgia continues to maintain a low infection rate and reopen its economy.
Head of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Tengiz Tsertsvadze says there are almost no new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 in Georgia. He earlier noted that the rate of coronavirus infection is currently decreasing in the country.
3,271 individuals have been tested for COVID-19 in Georgia (as of April 7) since January 2020, while the country has had 208 cases so far. A handful of individuals have been tested several times and 3,457 tests have been used in total. In all the cases, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, a gold-standard in epidemiology for detecting viral matter in blood samples, was used. The method takes just several hours to give results, but is highly accurate.
Georgia ranks 109th worldwide and 50th in Europe in terms of the spread of COVID-19 and mortalities caused by the coronavirus, which is the one of the best results across the globe, head of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases Tengiz Tsertsvadze said. Georgia has had 195 cases of the coronavirus since February 2020. 39 of the 195 have recovered. Two of the 195 have died of the virus so far, while two others were foreign citizens who left the country last month.
One-fifth (20.5% = 762,621) of the Georgian population, who are of retirement age, are at high or moderate risk in terms of the new coronavirus pandemic, reads the Georgian government’s report about the measures taken against the Covid-19.
Over 50 inhabitants will undergo mandatory PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing for the coronavirus in Georgia’s eastern Mushevani village, which has been on strict lockdown due to an outbreak of the virus since April 25. The results of the tests will become known on June 25, which will play a crucial role in removing the quarantine-zone status for the village of Mushevani.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a €400,000 (about $451,996) loan for Georgia to purchase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) equipment and tests, which is the ‘gold standard’ in testing for the coronavirus.
With $80 million in support from the World Bank’s Emergency COVID-19 Response project, the government of Georgia has been able to procure 147,000 rapid COVID-19 antibody and antigen test kits and 250,000 PCR tests, which will triple Georgia's testing capacity to 3,000 samples per day by mid-July, announces the World Bank.
