A gas station exploded in Tbilisi yesterday evening at about 22:00, which resulted in the injuries of one person and which smattered window panes in residential and commercial buildings nearby.
The Eco Gas station was located on Nutsubidze Plateau 3 on Elguja Amashukeli Street.
No one was killed in the accident, though a 48-year-old man who has a second-third degree burn has been hospitalized.
The health condition of [one injured] man is stable,” said Guga Kashibadze, the Head of the Burn Center at Khechinashvili University Hospital.
He noted the man has burns on 25 per cent of his body.
Six rescue brigades have been working at the scene last night who managed to extinguish the fire in several minutes after the explosion.
Director of Eco Gas Davit Kutateladze answered criticism voiced by locals that the gas station should not have been near residential buildings and said that construction of these residential buildings started in 2012, while the gas station was built in 2008.
The cause of the explosion is yet unknown.
According to information published after the explosion, the Eco Gas station experienced a technical breakdown several days ago, and called in a repair company to deal with the issue.
