The United States Embassy to Georgia has congratulated Georgia as the country marks Police Day today.
Police officers do a difficult job, often in hazardous circumstances. Most of these brave men and women face daily dangers and spend sleepless nights on duty to keep us all safe. In difficult times, we rest easy knowing they will always answer our call”, the Embassy wrote on Facebook.
Today we are joining Georgia in celebrating Police Day, as we take time to thank the tireless police officers who have shown their tireless dedication during the response to COVID-19”, it also said adding that the US ‘is very proud to stand with you!”

Despite the crisis caused by the coronavirus, the Georgian government is continuing to pursue a strict policy against domestic violence and violence against women.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has opened a new office for its forensic-criminalistics department, which has 20 modern labs, including a DNA lab.“The department will now offer a biological examination service. The lack of service in previous years made genetic examinations impossible, hampering complex studies and various investigative activities,” the Interior Ministry reports.
A new crew of public order officers will soon appear in the streets of Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi to prevent crime. 60 public order officers have already passed special training and will soon start their duties.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has finished training call centre operators throughout the country meaning citizens in different regions will be able to contact the police service more effectively.
Georgian top officials have congratulated the country’s police officers on the day, praising their role in ensuring public safety. The Georgian prime minister, president and interior minister have stated that the Georgian police are ‘absolutely apolitical’ and that Georgian policemen are ‘heroes and high class professionals.’ PM Irakli Garibashvili stated that ‘unfortunately, some anti-state forces try to deliberately discredit the police, which is unacceptable.’
Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Tuesday congratulated law enforcement officers on Police Day, saying the Georgian Government and the Ministry were “actively working” to create working conditions of “European standard” for police officers.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Tuesday congratulated law enforcement officers on Police Day by saying public order and security of citizens in the country rested on police professionals.
