The Georgian Interior Ministry has opened a new office for its forensic-criminalistics department, which has 20 modern labs, including a DNA lab.
The department will now offer a biological examination service. The lack of service in previous years made genetic examinations impossible, hampering complex studies and various investigative activities,” the Interior Ministry reports.

All 20 labs are of ISO standards.
The labs will allow our law enforcers and investigators to fulfill their duties more effectively. We have not had such labs earlier. We have managed to do the work in a year's time,” Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said.
Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri has stated that further steps will be taken for the improvement of working conditions of law enforcers.

Besides forensics laboratories, the new building offers a ballistic shooting range, special repositories, working spaces, an exhibition space and a recreation area.
The building is equipped with modern anti-fire and security systems.
Today Georgia marks Police Day. Addressing police employees Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia said that it is the “biggest honour for me to serve the country with you.” Gakharia paid homage to police employees killed on duty and stated that the current goal is the creation of an effective police,” which will always preserve political neutrality”.
The Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated today that providing better salaries and living conditions for police staff is becoming a priority for the government.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened dispensaries and upgraded video monitoring systems in temporary detention centres.
The Georgian Interior Ministry has started training and hiring staff for the investigative department as a result of reforms within the body.
The United States Embassy to Georgia has congratulated Georgia as the country marks Police Day today. "Police officers do a difficult job, often in hazardous circumstances. Most of these brave men and women face daily dangers and spend sleepless nights on duty to keep us all safe", the Embassy said.
A new temporary detention isolator and a building for administrative prisoners have been opened in Tbilisi today.
Georgian top officials have congratulated the country’s police officers on the day, praising their role in ensuring public safety. The Georgian prime minister, president and interior minister have stated that the Georgian police are ‘absolutely apolitical’ and that Georgian policemen are ‘heroes and high class professionals.’ PM Irakli Garibashvili stated that ‘unfortunately, some anti-state forces try to deliberately discredit the police, which is unacceptable.’
