Countries from around the world congratulate Georgia on Independence Day. Different sights throughout the world were illuminated in white and red, the colors of the national flag of Georgia.
The flag of Georgia was unfurled in the centre of Vilnius. Two historical bridges in Vilnius and the building of the City Hall in the second largest city in Lithuania, Kaunas were lit in red and white colours.
As a sign of respect, the City Hall of San Francisco raised the Georgian flag on its building.

The Embassy of Georgia in Jerusalem also celebrated the Independence Day. The old city walls were lit with the flags of the two nations.

On the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia, the Georgian national anthem was played from the tower of St. Jacob’s Church in the Hague.

On may 26, 1918, the Act of Independence was adopted, which established the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.
The First Democratic Republic of Georgia lasted only three years. In 1921 the country was invaded by the Russian Red Army.
Georgia resigned its independence in 1991.
