Online film screenings to mark Georgian Independence Day

Over two dozen short films by Georgian directors will be made available for viewing free on the web throughout May 26, to mark the country's Independence Day.

From works set in dramatised 1990s civil war-torn Tbilisi, to social realities in the mining town of Chiatura in the country's west, to fictional characters of animated works, a diversity of subjects will be on display for the programme.

Award-winning and internationally nominated works like Bad People (Best International Drama at Discover Film Awards), 12 K. Marx Street (European Short Film Award shortlist) and 8 Minutes (Manhattan Short Film Festival principal prize) have been included in the screening that involves 26 films.

 

Set to be opened up for viewing throughout the day on Tuesday, the shorts will be screened via a Facebook event set up by the Georgian National Film Centre.

The complete list of the works also includes critically acclaimed Exodus (Tbilisi International Film Festival Special Jury Prize), animated production Li.le (Berlin International Film Festival screening) and Lethe (BRIDGES. East of West Film Days festival).

Fisherman and the Girl (Annecy International Animation Film Festival screening), Ogasavara (Eastern Neighbours Film Festival selection) and Three Steps (Best International Short Film of the exground filmfest, Special Mention of the Berlin International Short Film Festival) will also bring stories in short form to the selection.
