Georgia reports 2 new coronavirus cases, 13 recoveries

Two people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Georgia increasing the total number of cases to 730 in the country. Meanwhile, 13 infected individuals have recovered bringing the total recoveries to 522.

As of May 24, there are 194 active cases of COVID-19 in Georgia out of the 730, as two Austrian citizens have returned to their country soon after they tested positive for the virus back in March.

Unfortunately, twelve individuals, with underlying chronic disease, have passed away from the coronavirus-related complications.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry reported yesterday that 12,477 Georgian citizens have been brought back from different coronavirus-hit areas since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Georgian government has brought back a total of 12,477 citizens from different coronavirus-hit areas in the world since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani announced yesterday that the prime minister’s interagency coordination council has spared no efforts to bring back all fellow citizens who wanted to return to Georgia.

State of emergency, curfew end, some restrictions remain in Georgia

The 63-day state of emergency has come to an end at 00:00 on May 23, lifting movement and other coronavirus-related restrictions in Georgia. However, the restriction banning more than three people in a car will be maintained for taxis. No public and municipal transport will be available at this point.

UPDATED: parliament passes bill allowing gov’t to impose restrictions without its consent

The Georgian parliament has passed a bill with its third and final reading earlier today which allows the government to impose movement, labour, migration, economic and other restrictions without the declaration of the state of emergency. 94 MPs in the 150-member parliament voted for the bill, no one was against. The opposition boycotted the vote.

Georgia to receive €150 mln from EU amid COVID-19 pandemic

The Council of the European Union has adopted a decision to provide €150 million in macro-financial assistance package to help Georgia ‘cope with the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic’. Georgia is among the ten enlargement and neighbourhood partners of the EU which will receive the financial assistance 'in the form of loans on highly favourable terms'.

Georgia has reported just one new case of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 731. 526 of the patients have recovered, while 12 others have died. As of May 25, 193 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Six of the 193 people are in critical condition.Director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infections Diseases Marina Ezugbaia said that doctors have used blood plasma treatment to cure a 80-year-old patient who was in critical condition.
