Georgia reports 8 new cases of coronavirus, 326 remain infected with COVID-19

Georgia has reported eight new cases of coronavirus today, bringing the total number of cases to 623. 

288 patients of the 623 people have recovered, while nine others have died. 

As of today 326 individuals remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia, while the figure stood at 331 yesterday. 

The source of infection of all eight new patients has been identified. Four of them were under quarantine, while four others had prior contact with them.

Georgian health officials say that they no longer expect a sharp increase in new cases.

The rate of coronavirus infection has slowed in Georgia over the past several days, with Georgia reporting five new cases of coronavirus yesterday, while the figure stood at six on May 6 and 11 on May 5.

Georgia has already lifted several, coronavirus-related restrictions and reopened the cities of Kutaisi and Batumi which have been on lockdown for 20 days. 

The government has plans to reopen Tbilisi on May 11 and Rustavi by the end of the next week.
