Police report 108 new violations of state of emergency regulations, nationwide curfew

The Georgian Interior Ministry has registered 108 new violations of the state of emergency regulations and nationwide curfew during the last 24 hours throughout the country.

Police have fined: 

  • 24 individuals for public gatherings that are larger than allowed;
  • 78 individuals for violating curfew regulations;
  • One individual for violating rules of quarantine and self-isolation;
  • Five individuals for violating rules of transportation and driving;

The Interior Ministry calls on everyone to follow the regulations of the state of emergency, otherwise individuals will face a fine of 3,000 GEL, while legal entities will face a fine of 15,000 GEL.

Repeat offences are punishable by three years in prison.

In the middle of April, the Georgian government has prolonged the state of emergency until May 22 to prevent the further spread of coronavirus.

Lifting the restrictions for Batumi and Kutaisi means that vehicles will be allowed to leave or enter the cities, however the nationwide curfew between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. remains in force.

Tbilisi and Rustavi will remain on lockdown for some time. PM Gakharia said that the restrictions may be lifted by the end of the week.
