UPDATED: Georgia reports 16 new cases of coronavirus, 23 recover, 2 die

Yet another infected individual has died of coronavirus today, bringing the number of mortalities in the country to eight.

Georgia reported 16 new cases of coronavirus increasing the total number of cases to 582 today. 

A total of 207 people have recovered since February 26 when the country confirmed the first case of the COVID-19.

However, yet another coronavirus-related mortality has increased the number of deaths to seven.

As of now, some 366 patients infected with COVID-19 remain in hospitals for further treatment. 

The Clinical Director at the First Clinic of Tbilisi State Medical University, Lali Turdzeladze, said that the 83-year-old man who died yesterday had underlying chronic diseases.

Georgia has extended the state of emergency until May 22 to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus.
