Georgia continues to bring back fellow citizens from coronavirus-hit countries

The Georgian government continues to bring back citizens from coronavirus-hit countries. 

As of now, 5,540 Georgian citizens have been brought home, while Georgian embassies and consulates have provided assistance to 4,051 Georgian citizens abroad.

Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said that first of all, preference will be given to citizens who had tickets and were not able to return to their homeland due to the imposed restrictions.

Preference will also be given to persons with severe health conditions, pregnant women, the elderly, families with minor children, students who have been denied scholarships and funding, persons who have been left homeless in the host countries due to the spread of coronavirus. Besides, those individuals who were travelling by private cars or by vehicles brought abroad and could not return back due to the closure of land borders”, said Zalkaliani earlier today.

 Zalkaliani noted that during each scheduled flight, people with special needs are able to enjoy the flights.

A Georgian citizen in critical condition was taken on a flight yesterday. He was taken from Hamburg to Berlin by a specially hired ambulance vehicle.

Organized by Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the plane was flown from Tbilisi  with a group of doctors to provide medical service to the patient on board. Zalkaliani also said that two additional flights will be launched in order to return fellow citizens to Georgia.
