Georgia reports six new cases of coronavirus, total number of cases stands at 214, 50 recovered

Georgia has confirmed six new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 214. 

In most of the new cases the source of the infection has been identified and they are connected with foreign states.

Of the 214, 50 have recovered, three have died, while two others were foreign citizens who left the country last month. 

As of today Georgia has 159 active cases of the virus.

About 6,000 individuals have been thermoscreened in Vani municipality of Western Georgia, where a 75-old woman and her husband tested positive for the coronavirus. 

It has not been identified so far how the woman contracted the virus. 

A checkpoint has been set up in the municipality and 25 per cent of the Vani population has already been screened, Imereti region governor Zviad Shalamberidze said earlier today. 

He stated that no one has shown the symptoms of the virus so far among the 6,000. 

Marneluli and Bolnisi municipalities in eastern Georgia remain in lockdown. 

As of today 4,722 individuals are under quarantine and 408 others in hospitals. 

Georgia confirmed its first case of the coronavirus on February 26, 2020.
