Georgia has 156 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 28 recovered

Georgia has confirmed eight new cases of coronavirus increasing the total number to 156, including 28 recoveries. 

As of now there are 126 individuals in the country who are infected with the virus (two of the 155 were foreign citizens who have left to their respective country). 

5,526 people are under quarantine, while 344 individuals are under the medical observation in different hospitals in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and regions.

Head of the Georgian National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier in late-March that "highly likely" Georgia has internal transmission of COVID-19. 

Calling on everyone to stay home, he said “social distancing is the most powerful weapon" against the coronavirus. 

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has thanked EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell and US Ambassador Kelly Degnan for their efforts to provide rapid support for Georgia in the fight against the coronavirus. 

Since the COVID-19 outbreak the Georgian government has brought back 4,500 Georgian citizens from different coronavirus-hit areas throughout the world.
