The ICRC opened the grave near village Tamarasheni, Tskhinvali and exhumed the bodies in October, 2017.

The bodies were sent and identified at an international laboratory in Zagreb, Croatia.

This is very painful, a big tragedy and pain… but it is of utmost importance for the families to know where their beloved people are laid to rest,” Georgia’s Minister for Reconciliation Ketevan Tsikhelashvili stated and thanked all for being involved in the process.

The ICRC aims to find and identify the remains of more than 2,200 missing people that went missing as a result of military conflicts in the early 1990s and 2008 and inform their families.

Several bodies of the victims of military operations in Georgia were recently laid to rest.
