Georgia/s Permanent Representative to Geneva, Victor Dolidze, spoke with European Union ambassadors about the recent tragic death of Georgian citizen Irakli Kvaratskhelia in occupied Abkhazia.
Dolidze participated in the meeting of the EU and “EU friends” Ambassadors on the sidelines of the 4oth session of the UN Human Rights Council.
At the meeting Dolidze highlighted that, at this point, the relevant authorities of Georgia are in the process of determining the circumstances of Kvaratskhelia’s death.
He also noted that “updated information regarding this tragic case will be immediately communicated” to the international community.
Georgia’s Ambassador to Austria Davit Dondua also spoke of Kvaratskhelia’s death and the overall situation in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali with his colleagues at the OSCE.
Residents of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions live under constant fear and are subjected to ethnic discrimination”, Dondua said.

News of Kvaratskhelia’s death was reported on March 12. He will be laid to rest later today.
The de facto authorities of Abkhazia claimed the young man, who was detained for “illegally crossing” the so-called border, hung himself at the Nabakevi military base.
A post-mortem examination carried out in Tbilisi revealed the man suffered damage to the throat, but further laboratory studies should say whether it was inflicted when he was alive or appeared after death
