Georgian female boxer takes bronze at U22 European Championship

Georgian female boxer Ana Khunjua has won bronze at the Under 22 European Championship.

This is the first time in Georgia’s sports history when the female boxer won a medal.

Medals by nations of the women’s competition are as follows:

  • Russia: 8 medals
  • Turkey: 6 medals
  • Italy: 5 medals
  • Armenia, England, France, Poland: 2 medals
  • Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ireland, Netherlands, Romania, Scotland, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine: 1 medal

Take a look at the  U22 quarter-final participated by Ana Khunjua and her Belarusian rival Aleksandra Karpovich.

 

Ana Khunjua competed in the 54 kg category, and defeated her Belarusian rival Aleksandra Karpovich in the quarter-final.

She lost the semi-final to Russian rival Anastasia Artamonova but still gained bronze. 

Earlier, in June 2018, Anna Khunjua won a historical bout for Georgia in the first day of the EUBC European Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships.
