The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has decided to expand the mandate of its Human Rights Department created in early 2018.
Monitoring of the investigation of crimes against life and health will be added to the obligations of the department starting from the year, Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili stated today.
Mezvrishvili stated that the reason of the expansion of powers is that the department dealt with its obligations “very successfully in 2018.”
The criminal police reform and the improvement of the quality of investigation is one of the top priorities for the ministry,” Mezvrishvili said.
She stated that the Interior Ministry will provide further efforts this year for the effective investigation of crimes motivated by discrimination and committed against minors.
