The Georgian Interior Ministry will open a special division in Tbilisi in April 2020 which will be focused only on minors’ issues, head of the prime minister’s office Natia Mezvrishvili has stated.

Mezvrishvili, who previously served as deputy interior minister, said that investigators specialised in minors’ issues will work in the division.

She also added that in the coming days the Education Ministry will present an action plan about the roles of teachers, social workers and school personnel when an incident involving a minor takes place.

She said that the work is underway with the Health Ministry to overcome the challenges related to social workers.

The statement comes amid the controversy related to the recent death of a 15-year-old boy in Tbilisi in early December.
