Twenty-four Georgian wines have received two double-gold, 15 gold and seven silver medals at the 6th Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2019, the National Wine Agency of Georgia says.
Different Georgian wines were selected among 4,326 items from 34 countries after the tasting assessment held from 29 January to 30 January, while the results have been announced today.
The competition featured the best commercially-produced wines from around the world, judged solely by leading professional women in the wine industry.

The Diamond Trophy, the most prestigious award, will be selected among double gold wines on 5 March at the international exhibition FOODEX Japan 2019, the Georgian Wine Agency says.
Winning such prestigious competitions will raise the awareness not only of privates companies, but Georgian wine in general,” the Wine Agency stated.
The agency says that Japan is one of the “strategic markets” for Georgian wine.
“More than 212,000 bottles of wine have been exported to Japan last year, which is 37 per cent more than in 2017,” the agency reported.
