Cardinal Secretary of State of the Holy See (Vatican) Pietro Parolin is paying a three-day visit to Georgia.
During the meeting with Parolin yesterday, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said Georgia is committed to deepenening cooperation with Vatican.
Gakharia and Parolin spoke of the situation in the Russian occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), as well as the country’s European aspirations.
PM Gakharia thanked the Cardinal for Vatican’s strong support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Pietro Parolin congratulated Georgia on the release of Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, which was made possible through the joint efforts of the Government of Georgia and the international community.
Doctor Gaprindashvili, who was released from Tskhinvali prison early yesterday, personally met with Cardinal Parolin today with his family as well.
Pope Francis invited Georgian Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II to the Vatican next year. In a letter which was published earlier today, Pope Francis recalled his visit to Georgia back in 2016, saying he wished to meet with Ilia II again next year.
Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the secretary for relations with States of the Holy See (Vatican), who came to Georgia on 21 October, visited Khurvaleti village yesterday, which is located at the occupation line between Georgia and its eastern breakaway Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
Pope Francis says that Georgia has inspired him greatly and he will always remember his visit to the country with great fondness. Today Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelahsvili hosted the Ambassador of the Holy See to Georgia, Monsignor Marek Solczynski.
