Best Georgian athletes of 2019 revealed

Georgian top weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze, who is an Olympic champion and a four-time world and European champion, was named as the athlete of the year for the second consecutive year.

The Georgian National Olympic Committee awarded the best Georgian athletes in various types of sports yesterday.

Three-time Olympic medal-winning shooter Nino Salukvadze became the best female athlete, while Georgian wheelchair fencer Irma Khetsuriani - the best paralympic athlete.

Rising basket talent Goga Bitadze, who has been picked by the National Basketball Association team Indiana Pacers, was named as the youngest athlete of the year.

Judokas Luka Maisuradze and Eter Liparteliani were named as the year's "discoveries".

Georgian figure skating couple of Maria Kazakova and Giorgi Revia were recognised for their merit in development of winter sport.
