Russia investigates embezzlement of $48 mln allocated for de facto Tskhinvali

The Russian Prosecutor’s Office reports that an investigation is underway into the embezzlement of 3 billion Russian rubles (about $48 million), that was allocated to rebuild infrastructure in de facto South Ossetia (occupied Tskhinvali).

The Russian side says that some of the defendants regarding the criminal case have been detained on Russian territory, as the case is being investigated in Russia.

All the defendants are Russian citizens, reports Russia’s Prosecutor Office.

According to official information, the money was to be spent on the social-economic development of de facto South Ossetia.
