One has been detained for uploading intimate private footage on YouTube, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
The individual has acknowledged his guilt in the matter.
The detention comes after the statement of Georgian Dream ruling party MP Eka Beselia, who said on 28 January that footage of her personal life recorded under the United National Movement leadership had gone viral.
During a search of his home, investigators have found a mobile phone of the detainee where he kept the video.
Earlier yesterday the MIA detained 16 individuals for the possession and release of private footage which was uploaded by the individual detained last night.
Those citizens who have been questioned regarding the case have cooperated with the investigators and provided concrete information. We call on our citizens not to get involved in the crime and stop spreading any kind of personal videos in any form. Otherwise the law enforcement agencies will take measures according to the legislation,” Head of the Central Criminal Department of the MIA Vladimer Botsvadze said at a briefing last night.
Earlier yesterday the MIA said the detainees used their social pages and special mobile applications to store the footage and release it. The crime is punishable by four to eight years in prison.
