Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili posthumously awarded 24 veterans of the Abkhaz War on Saint George’s Day yesterday.
The future of our country is built on the memories of those that fought and died for our national sovereignty. We must never forget their sacrifice”, President Zurabishvili wrote on Twitter.
She said "the dignity of a nation is measured by how it treats its veterans".

Giga Murvanidze, veteran of the Battle of Shindisi, who attended the ceremony at the Presidential Palace, received a new apartment.

In her address, President Zurabishvili spoke of the recent developments in the country as well.
She said it is no time for internal confrontations now as all of the efforts should be used to release a Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili, who has been illegally detained and sentenced in occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
Zurabishvili also mentioned the parliament's rejection of an electoral bill aimed ot move the country from the current mixed electoral system to a fully proportional one.
I call on everyone to continue working on electoral code to ensure that our citizens have the opportunity to freely express their will through fair elections”, President Zurabishvili stated.
