PM Gakharia condemns ‘borderisation’ in village of Atotsi

Giorgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said the continued “borderisation” in the village of Atotsi in Kareli Municipality, near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, is “unacceptable”.
PM Gakharia told journalists yesterday that the Government of Georgia is making all the necessary steps together with its international partners to ensure peace on the ground.
With the full support of the international community, we will spare no efforts to make sure that our citizens exercise the right to live a dignified life on their lands”, Gakharia stated.
He said the restoration of the territorial integrity of Georgia is possible through ensuring that the country is “developed, economically strong, democratic”.
The State Secretary Service of Georgia reported that the Russian occupation forces' continued provocations in the village of Atotsi, close to the occupation line yesterday.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry stated that this illegal attempt of escalating the situation further deteriorates already difficult security and human rights situation on the ground as well as restricts freedom of movement and access of the local population to the agricultural lands.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry condemns the continued erection of barbed wire fences and other artificial barriers in the village of Atotsi in Kareli Municipality, near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry is concerned that the “occupation forces occupied the hilltop in the vicinity of the village of Chorchana, installed a so-called ‘border’ sign and stepped up works to deploy a so-called checkpoint there”.
The de facto government of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region is clearing a road to a new ‘police checkpoint’ in the village of Tsnelisi, Kareli municipality of Georgia, at an altitude of 944 meters.
Co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions (GID), who met with the Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani on Wednesday, have released a statement on the “borderisation” process near occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region.
The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) has reported that they have observed “new fencing being installed” in the Village of Atotsi, Kareli municipality, by occupation forces, “creating additional barriers to the freedom of movement for the conflict affected population”. The occupation forces first put up barbed wire fences in the village of Atotsi in February 2014.
The de facto government of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) has accused Tbilisi of triggering tension, stating that the central government of Georgia “renewed the construction of a police-post” in the village of Perevi, Sachkhere municipality,on the Tbilisi-controlled territory, on October 28.
