The US Department of State Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus has tweeted that the US government welcomes the recent meeting between Georgian and Russian foreign ministers, held in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly with the mediation of Switzerland.
The United States welcomes the #Georgia and #Russia meeting facilitated by #Switzerland. We support Georgia’s sovereignty & territorial integrity and urge Russia to end its illegal occupation and decrease tensions along the Administrative Boundary Line.

EU, OSCE and the UN top officials have also welcomed the meeting.
Zalkaliani said that the meeting with Lavrov should not be considered as the change of existing format of negotiations with Russia.
He stated that he raised “all the issues” which concerns Georgia at the meeting.
