A weather station has been installed by the Ministry of Environment protection in Georgia’s mountainous regions of Kazbegi, 2940 meters above sea level.
The station provides meteorological parameters for continuous measurement of atmospheric pressure, air temperature and humidity, precipitation, wind speed, direction and transmission of data online.
Data from weather stations will help to improve the quality of weather forecasts and prepare and disseminate warnings in a timely manner about expected weather changes.
As Kazbegi is a mountainous region with harsh climatic conditions, people living in the area often face the effects of natural disasters, especially those who use the road of the Devdoraki Gorge, located near the Georgia-Russia border.
The last landslide to hit Devdoraki Gorge was in August 2017. It caused significant problems and blocked roads at the Georgia-Russia border checkpoint.
The Kazbegi Customs checkpoint at Georgia-Russia border has temporarily suspended all operations due to bad weather conditions.

The Government of Georgia has taken action to improve safety and reduce effects of natural disasters facing people who live and work in the high-risk landslide zone in the country’s northeast.
A landslide has fallen in Devdoraki Gorge in northern Georgia, blocking roads and a checkpoint at the Georgia-Russia border.
One person has died and another is missing following this week’s landslide in Devdoraki Gorge, near Kazbegi and the Russian border.
Kazbegi National Park, the local glacier access trail and the meteorological station in the area have been cleaned up today.
The average temperature in Georgia will likely be 1-2 degrees higher this summer than usual, says the National Environmental Agency noting that the amount of rainfall will be less than average in east Georgia.
The Georgian agency for weather forecast and climate change studies will use cloud infrastructure that was established with the support of the EU-funded EaPConnect project, announces EaPConnect.
