Kazbegi National Park, the local glacier access trail and the meteorological station in the area have been cleaned up today.
The meteorological station (Betlemi Hut) is a base camp for those wishing to climb the glacier. It is located at 3,653 meters above sea level.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The Regional Administration of the Government of Georgia, the Governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, the City Hall of Kazbegi Municipality and the Border Policy have also participated in clean-up work.
Protecting the environment and biodiversity are one of the top priorities of Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture. I want to urge everyone, especially visitors of protected areas, to take more responsibility and not to pollute the environment. Active involvement of our citizens in clean-up activities will significantly improve the situation”, said the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Yuri Nozadze, who also participated in the clean-up action of the glacier access trail.
Kazbegi National Park is located on the northern slopes of the Caucasus range and its protected area covers a total of over 78,543 hectares.

35% of the National Park is covered with forest, the rest area is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and cliffs, pastures and moraines.
Existence of diverse vegetation indicates to richness in fauna. In the Kazbegi Strict Nature Reserve can be found the Georgia’s Red List species, such as East Caucasian tur, chamois, wolf and marten.
The strict Nature Reserve is the best environment for birds of prey. Namely, the golden eagle, griffon vulture and bearded vulture.
