Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili says that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered to create a joint strategy with Georgia on how to combat Russian occupation and help both countries become members of the EU.
The presidents met in Warsaw, Poland, where world leaders were gathering to commemorate 80 years since the beginning of World War II.
Zelensky not only invited me to Ukraine, but also offered to work on a joint document which will help us resolve conflicts and take genuine steps towards the EU,” Zurabishvili said.

While in Poland Zurabishvili has also met with Charles Michel – the PM of Belgium and the president-elect of the EU Council.
At the meeting Zurabishvili said that the issue of resolving the occupation of historic Georgian lands by Russia is high on the international agenda.

Charles Michel has shown a high interest in the occupation issue. The questions regarding the occupation, interest and readiness to support us are very important for me. The Georgian occupation issue remains high on the agenda of the international community. We must jointly take steps to end the continued provocations by the occupying force,” Zurabishvili said.

Zurabishvili was invited to Poland to attend the event by President of Poland Andzej Duda.
The United States is “monitoring reports of military buildup near the administrative boundary line (ABL) of the Russian-occupied Georgian region of South Ossetia”. The US Department of State Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus released a statement on her official Twitter account today.
The de-facto South Ossetia ‘State Security Committee’ has announced that a ‘humanitarian operation’ will be carried out in the Russia-occupied village of Tsnelisi. The official statement does not clearly define what the ‘humanitarian operation’ is though it reads the operation is ‘absolutely peaceful.’“The operation is absolutely peaceful and serves to maintain stability and safety in the region,” the statement says.
The members of the Georgian government and occupation forces of the de-facto Tskhinvali region and Russia have held a meeting amid tensions along the occupation line in the Russia-occupied village of Tsnelisi today.
After the three-hour meeting was over, the Georgian and Ossetian sides made different statements. Head of the Georgian Security Council Kakhaber Kemoklidze said the meeting participants were unanimous, saying the situation should be de-escalated, adding the meeting was held in a ‘constructive environment.’
President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili condemned the so-called 'presidential elections' in the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia in a statement on Monday, stating the Georgian government was joined by its international partners in not accepting the vote.

De facto incumbent President of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia region Raul Khajimba has won the so-called presidential run-off, receiving 47.38 per cent of the vote, held in the region yesterday. In the first round of the so-called elections held on August 25, 2019 Khajimba received 24.83 per cent of the vote.
