About 6,000 teachers of retirement age have taken redundancy in exchange for two years salary in advance, announces the Ministry of Education.
Georgian Education Minister Mikheil Batiashvili announced back in May 2019 that teachers of pension age that decided to take redundancy would receive financial compensation equal to two years worth of their salaries in advance.
In addition, the teachers would keep their state-funded health insurance.
The first stage of receiving applications for redundancy is over, announces Georgian Deputy Minister of Education Irina Abuladze, however the offer remains valid until the end of 2019.
