Nikoloz Basilashvili has made tennis history for Georgia by becoming the country’s first player to claim an ATP World Tour title for the third time today.
This is Basilashvili’s second victory in a row at the Humburg European Open championship.
Basilashvili, 27, took his second straight trophy at the ATP 500 event with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory against Russian Andrey Rublev.
Basilashvili told the official ATP World Tour website that winning the championship “means a lot” for him.
When you have achievements, people want more and expect more... Everybody is writing to me, everybody is happy. I have a lot of support from home and it is a great feeling”, Basilashvili said.
He also said he was coming to Hamburg “very relaxed”.

In October 2018, he won his second ATP title at the China Open by defeating world No. 4 Juan Martín del Potro in the final match.
