Law enforcement professionals in Georgia will be able to hold expedited and high-quality DNA evidence tests in a modern laboratory approved at a government meeting on Friday.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said it would be equipped with the DNA forensic laboratory within the ongoing project for upgrading police infrastructure.
The lab will enable professionals to test evidence obtained from crime scenes and prepare forensic reports in a timely fashion, the state agency said.
Operation of the laboratory will be augmented by an existing database of the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, while samples will also be submitted from the lab to the Bureau.
The Interior Ministry said the new lab would operate round-the-clock after its launch in an unspecified timeframe.
