Large, endangered turtle found on Georgian coast returned to sea after treatment

A large, endangered loggerhead sea turtle has been sent back to sea after it was provided with treatment.

The turtle swam into the Black Sea from the Mediterranean, and came to the Georgian seaside town of Poti earlier in March.

The National Environmental Agency stated the tortoise was in need of special care and rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation was carried out in a pool of the Paragraph Hotel.

Taking specialists’ recommendation into account, employees of the National Environmental Agency let the turtle swim in the coastal area of Georgia.

Head of the agency Andro Aslanishvili thanked the hotel administration for assistance as well as Poti resident Lasha Khojava who found the giant tortoise and informed the agency.
