A total of 28 projects have been completed in six Georgian municipalities through a government programme that aims supporting rural development.
The rural communities of 3,700 villages all over the country decided with the government what projects were most important for their particular area.
The city councils approved 4,801 projects selected by the majority of the population’s votes and have already concluded contracts for 435 ones out of which 28 projects were conducted.
The six municipalities where the projects were carried out are:
- Dusheti
- Mtskheta
- Kareli
- Dedoplistskaro
- Marneuli
Outdoor lighting system, drainage and water communication were renovated in the municipalities.
The cemeteries were also put into order, gravel was placed on the roads.
The programme resumed on January 1, 2019 after a two-year pause and will continue until 2020.
The project budget was doubled on February 1, reaching 40 million GEL.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has praised the government’s rural support programme, aimed at supporting rural development across Georgia and said this is “one of his favourite programmes”.
Residents of Georgian villages will receive twice as much funding as was previously allocated within the within the framework of a special government programme aimed at supporting rural development in Georgia.
Locals to choose how to spend the budget
A government programme aimed at supporting rural development across Georgia has resumed after a two-year pause.
A total of 66 million GEL will be spent on developing mountainous regions in Georgia, to improve infrastructure and conditions for those living there. The money is allocated by the National Council for Mountain Development and the Fund for the Development of the Highlands of Georgia will be spent on projects that are included to Georgia’s new mountain development strategy.
Of 4,808 infrastructure projects selected by citizens in the government’s rural support programme for this year, 3,212 have already been completed, while the rest of the infrastructure projects are underway and will be completed by the end of the year, the Ministry of Infrastructure has stated earlier today.
Georgian businesses located in highland areas now will have the right to sell their goods not only in highland areas, but also in the whole territory of Georgia and will also be able to export their goods outside the county without losing their “highland business” status and thus without canceling their preferential tax status, announced the Ministry of Finance.
Georgian pensioners older than 70 years old and who reside in the country’s highland areas will be paid a pension of 263 GEL ($90.41/€81.65) from January 1, 2020 and of 300 GEL ($103.13/€93.14) from July 1, 2020, announced Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia at a presentation held on the occasion of International Mountain Day earlier today.
Georgian government is allocating 40 million GEL ($13.9 mln/€12.5 mln) in 2020 in the framework of government’s rural support programme to finance the projects being implemented in rural areas of Georgia.
