Georgia's internationally recognised pianist Khatia Buniatishvili was at New York's Faust Harrison Pianos store on Monday, however her visit was not for purchasing a piece from the shop.
Buniatishvili, an award-winning French-based performer, was in the store that promotes itself for offering "by far the most extensive selection of quality pianos in the greater NY area" following an interview she gave to the ELLE DECOR website of decoration and design review.
The Georgian artist was offered to walk into the store and pretend to be interested in obtaining an instrument at the shop by Charles Curkin, the interviewer for the website's profile story on the pianist.
Buniatishvili agreed to the idea of an impromptu performance at the shop, resulting in a couple of Instagram videos appreciated by hundreds of social media users since they went online.
Winner of the ECHO Klassik Award TF1 Musician of the Year prize, among other plaudits, picked two pianos for brief renditions of Impromptu solo pieces by Franz Schubert.
The videos were also included with the interview published on ELLE DECOR on Monday.
In the piece Buniatishvili talks about a myriad of subjects from her memories with and preferences of pianos she has experienced to her interpretation of great classical works.
The pianist's choice of pieces to suit different moods and her thoughts about writing her own music were also subjects of the talk.
The music of Schubert is the theme of Buniatishvili's latest album, released earlier this month by Sony Classical.
It includes Sonata for Piano in B flat major, the piece the artist names in the interview as her favourite work to perform for an audience, as well as four Impromptus and Schwanengesan.
Buniatishvili is currently in Berlin, where she is set to delight an audience with a short concert at the Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus venue.
The pianist's upcoming performance dates involve shows in Hong Kong, Austria and Switzerland throughout the next month.
