853 prohibited items seized from Georgian schools in seven months

Between September 2018 and April 2019 853 prohibited items have been seized from pupils in different schools of Georgia, the Georgian Ministry of Education told the IPN news agency.

The seized items included:

  • 1 firearm.
  • 56 knifes.
  • 13 sharp items.
  • 25 playing cards or other gambling items.
  • 3 explosive or poisonous substances.
  • 26 knuckle-dusters.

The resource officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have also seized tobacco, New Year’s  explosives, an electro shock apparatus, and 33 items which could be used for the consumption of drugs and alcohol.

There were 20 recorded cases of bringing drugs onto school territory.

Random pupil checks have become more regular since the murder of two schoolchildren in central Tbilisi in 2017, the high-profile Khorava street murder case.
