Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili visited Iran on May 7 where he met with governmental officials to strengthen ties between Georgia and Iran.
During his one-day visit Kumsishvili met with the Foreign Minsiter of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif and spoke about Georgia’s willingness to welcome the investments of Iranian companies in the country.
There are numerous economic opportunities in Georgia which are open to Iranian companies’ contributions as Georgian officials welcome Iran’s presence in the country,” Iran’s Mehr News Agency quoted Kumsishvili as saying.
After voicing his content with his visit to iran, Kumsishvili said "relations between our two countries are friendly and growing and there are many projects that can be done with the help of Iranian companies”.

The two ministers then exchanged views on other areas of cooperation between Georgia and Iran, especially transit, cooperation with other countries of the region to create a transportation corridor, banking relations, energy and tourism.
While in Iran Kumsishvili also met Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Masoud Karbasian, during which Kumsishvili highlighted the recent developments and progress in Georgia.
Kumsishvili stated that Georgia is a new developing market which aims to cement its positions in the global economy, to be fully integrated in the international market and become a regional hub.
Later Kumsishvili also met with the Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh.
