Tbilisi government to promote healthy lifestyle

Aiming to promote a healthy lifestyle Tbilisi city hall plans to deliver professional equipment to sports unions and federations, Tbilisi mayor Kakha Kaladze said today at a regular meeting of the city government.
The budget for the entire project amounts to 600,000 GEL over the year.
"We have got lots of federations which do not have the possibility of providing elementary sports equipment. We are going to support them,” Kaladze said adding that the selected sports are sambo, boxing, riding, shooting, wrestling, tennis and volleyball.
Kaladze, who is an ex-footballer who spent most of his career with AC Milan as a defender, hopes that the project will support teams and clubs to practice the sports they have chosen and be more successful.
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) will award weightlifters of 2017 in Tbilisi on May 8, which will be the first international sport award ceremony in Georgia.
A group of Georgian sumo wrestlers have won 16 medals at the 2017 European Sumo Championship in Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi.
Georgia will host a dozen of some of the most anticipated international sports events throughout this year in an initiative encompassing cities and towns across the country within the Check in Georgia governmental project.
Tbilisi citizens have run the distance from Vake Park to Freedom Square today as part of the Tbilisi Run initiative by the mayor Kakha Kaladze who ran himself as well promising that healthy lifestyle promotion would be continued.
The opening ceremony of the European Week of Sport at Rike Park has been attended by government officials, representatives of the Georgian National Olympic Committee and national sports federations today.
