The de facto Prosecutor’s Office of the Russia-controlled occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region of Georgia has launched a case against Georgian civil activist Tamar Mearakishvili in the occupied Akhalgori area.
It is the second case against the activist who has been active on social networks and is known for her criticism of the de-facto authorities.
Mearakishvili was illegally detained last year and released after pressure from the government of Georgia and the international community.
The latest case concerns the "fabrication of official documents,” Mearakishvili says.
Mearakishvili received the announcement about the charge yesterday, but as she had not been informed about the case details she refused to be questioned.
Mearakishvili stated she has been summoned to appear later today at the de facto Prosecutor’s Office to receive information about the case.
In 2017 Mearakishvili was detained for slander against the United Ossetia party. She has not yet received her personal belongings seized by the occupied region’s law enforcers during the search of her house in Akhalgori.
