A group from International Olympic Committee visits Georgia

A special group of experts and advisers from the International Olympic Committee has arrived in Georgia today to learn about development in the country’s mountain resorts and future prospects in the industry.

Based on the estimations of the group, the Georgian Government will create an action plan for developing Georgia’s ski resorts to host the winter Olympic Games in 2030.

The decision to send a group of experts and advisers came after a meeting between Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach in Lausanne, Switzerland on January 22, 2018.

Hosting the winter Olympic Games in 2030 will be the greatest prospect for our country. The International Olympic Committee’s experts will evaluate Georgia’s ski resorts and prepare an analysis, which will show in which direction we should spend more resources and be more concentrated”, said PM Kvirikashvili.

Meanwhile, the Government of Georgia plans to approve a general plan for land use for the country’s mountainous Bakuriani resort, avoiding spontaneous infrastructural development and eliminating the unplanned use of forests.

The general plan for Land Use for Bakuriani will include strict regulations to properly develop infrastructure in the resort.
