Georgia’s Ministry of Economy is launching a competition to choose commercial attaches to appoint to Georgian embassies abroad.
A commercial attache is a person posted to a foreign embassy to promote the economic interests of their home country.
The role of the commercial attaches will be to widely promote Georgia’s economic interests to foreign nations and inform Georgia's partners about the country's goals.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said at today’s government meeting appointing commercial attaches to foreign countries is part of the government’s plan to develop international trade.
The government believes economic diplomacy is an important tool for attracting more foreign direct investments (FDIs) to Georgia, supporting Georgia’s export potential, encouraging the use of modern technologies, finding proper foreign partners for local small and medium-sized businesses and protecting Georgian business interests abroad.
As of today, six pilot countries have been selected for the appointment of commercial attaches.
These countries are the United States, Germany, Turkey, Great Britain, United Arab Emirates and China.
