The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office says that they have already appealed to Polish authorities to extradite Georgia’s third and former president Mikheil Saakashvili back to his homeland.
The office told local media that they sent the request to Poland in August, last year, when Saakashvili was in the country before the former president re-entered Ukraine.
We will insist upon the request over [his] extradition to Poland,” the Chief Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The statement came after the Ukrainian government deported Saakashvili to Poland yesterday.
Ukrainian border service officials explained that they deported Saakashvili to Poland as the latter had illegally entered Ukraine from the country last year, after President Petro Poroshenko deprived Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship.
Saakashvili is in Poland now and vows he will return to Ukraine to overthrow"Poroshenko’s corrupt government.”
The former president, who faces charges both in Ukraine and Georgia, claims he is not going to ask for political asylum in Poland.
