Famous British journalist and wine writer Andrew Jefford visited Georgia to chair the jury of the First Saperavi International Competition along on a 12-person jury composed of Georgian and foreign experts.
Up to 200 wines of 87 producers of all sizes were represented at the competition held this week.
Jefford said that Georgia produces high-quality wines and the wines represented at the competition were impressive.
The quality of the wines that Georgia is producing today is another compelling reason to be here. We had the opportunity to taste Saperavi wine, which is one of the world’s greatest red varieties. Wines represented at the competition were very impressive. They always surprises us and makes pleasant impressions on us”, he said.
Jefford said that besides Saperavi, there are other wonderful wines in Georgia, which he had tasted during his previous visit in Georgia.
As for the Saperavi International Competition the winners of the competition will be announced soon.
