A bill has been put forward to the Georgian parliament that would ban the sale of fireworks to minors in order to prevent bodily damage and fatalities ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The bill was proposed by ruling Georgian Dream party legislators, and proposes a 100 GEL fine for individuals and 200 GEL fine for companies violating the law.
Repeat offences will double the prescribed fines.
In January 2018, 44 individuals were hospitalised due to injuries received from the use of fireworks. 24 out of the 44 were minors.
In 2017 the figure was 54.
