Georgia’s Samegrelo region will be fully gasified in two years, promises Deputy Minister of Economy Natia Turnava.

The process has already started and Turunava and other officials attended the traditional ceremony of the first time of gas oven lighting in one of the households of the village of Teklati yesterday.

The construction of the 79,044 meter long pipeline, crossing the five villages of Shua Nosiri, Nosiri, Akhalsopeli, Sagvaramio and Teklati, has been completed, giving access to natural gas to 1,345 households.

Turnava said that very important works have been carried out in the Samegrelo region during the past years. Namely, 70,000 households of four municipalities have already been provided with gas supply with the participation of the state, private companies and Socar.

However, we still have a lot to do – there still are omitted villages, as well as partly gasified villages. This is a first order priority - in 2019 we will complete everything in this field and we will start the gasification process of the two big municipalities – Tsalenjikha and Chkhorotsku, where a supply pipeline will be set up”, Turnava noted.

Turnava added that the design process is already completed while the gasification process in these municipalities will be completed in 2020.

So, the Samegrelo region, which is one of the largest districts in terms of gasification, will be fully gasified in the next two years”, she said.

As of today 86% of Georgia’s population has access to the natural gas.

Turnava said that in the coming three years 200 million GEL will be spent to complete the gasification process in Georgia.
