The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia has announced a tender to purchase 400 apartments for internally displaced persons.
The ministry has announced a tender for developers to provide apartments to displaced people.
This decision was reached today at a meeting led by Minister Davit Sergeenko.
We’re willing to support veteran refugees and their families”, stated Minister Davit Sergeenko during the meeting.
A commission will discuss and define criteria which applicants will have to meet, the date and conditions have already been set. The ministry is going to purchase apartments in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Marneuli Khashuri, Batumi and Kutaisi. Applicants can register until November 16.
On November 8 an open door day will be held for interested persons to receive full information about the tender.
The head of the commission will be Deputy Minister Grigol Giorgadze. Other commission members include ministry employees, representatives of the municipal development fund of Georgia and four non-governmental organizations.
Official data reads that 947 people asked for asylum in Georgia in 2016. Meanwhile, 1,513 people have refugee and humanitarian status in the country.

Residential buildings will be built for hundreds of families living near to Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Batumi, announces Chairman of the Government of Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tornike Rijvadze.
“The Government of Georgia will provide 211 IDP families with accommodations for free,” Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze has declared at a briefing today.
The Embassy of the United States to Georgia released a statement for World Refugee Day and highlighted it ‘continues to stand with Georgia in support of its Internally Displaced People.’ Currently, there are 273,411 IDPs in Georgia as a result of local conflicts in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions, which still remain occupied by Russia.

A construction tender has been announced to replace slums near Georgia’s coastal city of Batumi’s so-called ‘Dream Town’ or ‘Cardboard Town’ of eco-migrant families, currently housing about 1,000 children living in poor conditions. Head of Adjara government Tornike Rizhvadze says that 16 million GEL [about 6 million USD] will be allocated from the 2020 state budget for the construction.
The Agency for IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), eco-migrants and livelihood provision will provide 401 IDP families with accommodations in rural areas, reports the Ministry of Health, Social Care and Internally Displaced Persons.
