Georgia exported about 60 million bottles of wine to 53 countries in the first nine months of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
In January-September of 2018 Georgia generated about $142 million from the sale of wine abroad.
Revenue increased by 22 per cent from January-September 2017, while the volume of exports increased by 13 per cent, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Export growth was notable in the following countries:
- Japan – 68% percent increase (172,673 bottles)
- Poland – 32% increase (2,465,541 bottles)
- Great Britain – 22% increase (67,310 bottles)
To European countries and the US:
- Romania – 390% increase (84,654 bottles)
- The Czech Republic– 69% (31,050 bottles)
- The Netherlands – 47% increase (60,309 bottles)
- Germany – 22% increase (349,216 bottles)
- Lithuania – 18% increase (331,620 bottles)
To traditional export markets:
- Turkmenistan - 80% increase (120,294 bottles)
- Kyrgyzstan –54% increase (179,610 bottles)
- Kazakhstan – 30% increase (2,658,224 bottles)
- Mongolia – 44% increase (162,390 bottles)
- Ukraine – 27% increase (6,746,598 bottles)
The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgia wine in January-September 2018 were:
- Russia – 37,064,677 bottles
- Ukraine – 6,746,598 bottles
- China – 4,821,937 bottles
- Kazakhstan – 2,658,224 bottles
- Poland – 2,465,541 bottles
Meanwhile, Georgia exported 13.5 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+19 percent) and 287,000 bottles of Chacha (+96 percent) abroad in January-September 2018.
In total, Georgia has sold $222.7 million worth of alcoholic beverages in January-September 2018, including wine, brandy, chacha and others.
