Number of tourists visiting Georgia increases 9.1% in September 2018

Georgia hosted 892,463 international travellers in September 2018, showing an increase of five per cent year-on-year (y/y) announces the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA).

Of these 892,463 travellers, 536,302 were tourists, which is 9.1 per cent more compared to the same month in 2017.

The majority of foreign travellers were from Russia (+27.8%) and Azerbaijan (+9.8%).
A positive trend was also maintained by visitors from the European Union:

  • Estonia (+86%)
  • Sweden (+82%)
  • The Netherlands (+79%)
  • Germany (+62%)
  • Latvia (48%)
  • Czech Republic (+44)

The countries with the most significant increase were:

  • Korea (+111%)
  • China (+95%)
  • Belarus (+47%)
  • Japan (+38%)
  • Israel (+36%)

During the January-September 2018 Georgia hosted 6,788,377 international travellers (+11.2%) of which 3,772,102 were tourists (+17.7%).

How did Georgia benefit from more visitors?

About $2.23 billion was generated from international tourism in Georgia in January-August 2018, which was $405 million more compared to the same period of 2017, said the GNTA.

In the first and second quarter of 2018 international tourism revenue reached $1.36 billion.

Meanwhile, in all of 2017 international tourism revenue reached $2.7billion, which was $594 million more compared to 2016.
